Who runs EYP?
EYP was set up in 2009 by colleagues at Brewin Dolphin who had identified a lack of opportunities for young professionals in the early stages of their career to meet peers in a non-industry specific environment. The three founding members of EYP Jonny Macneal, Lucinda Faulkner and Cath Robins have since left Edinburgh. EYP is now run by the Board members: Conor Forker, Jessica Randal, Michael Kent, Sarah Buchart, Jonathan Baird, Joanna Stewart, Kirsten Thomson and Caroline Whytock.
Does membership cost anything?
No. Membership is absolutely free.
Where we can we will aim to heavily subsidise costs through sponsorship, although we may ask you to pay a small attendance fee for some events.
Is there an age limit?
Our target demographic is those in their twenties and thirties or in the early stages of their careers. However, if you fall outwith this age range but still consider yourself to be ‘young at heart’ you are more than welcome to sign up!
What do you mean by ‘professional’?
We have members from a wide range of professions: investment managers, solicitors, lawyers, accountants, bankers, property agents, surveyors, engineers, marketing and PR professionals, recruitment agents… the list goes on. We welcome anyone from the business community who wants to make new contacts for personal and professional development.
Can I organise an event through EYP?
In a word, YES!
We want to encourage involvement from all of our members. EYP is an open network, set up by young professionals to help other young professionals. If you have an idea or would like to discuss putting on an event we would love to hear from you.

Why did we set EYP up?
As we began our careers, it became obvious that the importance of developing a network of contacts is paramount. It was therefore essential that we had the skills and confidence to begin to put this network in place. While some people have a natural ability to meet and interact with new people at social and business events, some may not find this easy and we recognised the potential benefits of guidance from those with more experience and also a relaxed organisation which doesn’t take itself too seriously. On this front, EYP has proved to be an active, exciting and valuable network to be part of.
The level of interest we have had in EYP to date is astonishing, and it is testament to the demand for a networking group targeting this demographic. For our members and their employers, we hope that the contacts made, as well as events that encourage professional development, will stand them in good stead to become Edinburgh’s future business leaders.
See you at the next event!
